The InStock page in Tightly lets you define rules that automate how your out-of-stock products behave on Shopify and how they trigger restocking workflows internally.
This functionality is built for operations and inventory teams who want to avoid manual toggling, overselling, or missing replenishment opportunities.
Tightly currently offers two types of InStock policies — each designed for a different level of control.
What Does an InStock Policy Do?
When you assign a product to an InStock policy:
Tightly manages its Shopify backordering setting automatically.
Depending on the policy logic, products may be shown as sellable even when stock is zero.Unfulfilled sales are automatically tracked and pushed to the Basket.
If a product is sold while out of stock and cannot be fulfilled by existing inventory or incoming POs, Tightly adds the missing quantity to the Basket to help you replenish it.A special InStock icon appears in the Basket next to auto-added rows.
This helps your team recognize which replenishment tasks came from InStock logic.
Policy Types Available
1. Tightly InStock (Recommended for PO-driven teams)
This policy uses lead time logic and PO status to dynamically decide whether a product should be backorderable on Shopify.
Allows you to define a Max Days of Delivery threshold
Optionally subtract PO Processing Time from the threshold for tighter control
Optionally restrict backordering unless there's an approved PO in place
Ideal for teams that want to avoid selling products they can’t fulfill within a guaranteed delivery window.
2. Simple Backordering
This is a minimal policy that always enables backordering on Shopify for selected products — no lead time logic, no PO requirement.
Products will always show as purchasable, regardless of stock level
Missing sold quantities are still added to the Basket automatically
Great for fast-moving or evergreen SKUs where fulfillment risk is low
What Happens When You Use an InStock Policy?
For any product included in either policy:
If it’s sold while out of stock, and backordering is allowed:
The sold quantity is added to the Basket automatically
An InStock icon appears in the Basket table next to that item
You can act on those items like any other (e.g. convert to PO)
This helps your team respond quickly to replenishment needs, without digging through reports or Shopify orders.
