Demand Planning for Bundled Products in Tightly

When you sell bundles that contain multiple individual products (components), planning inventory for those components becomes critical - especially if you also sell them individually. In Tightly, how you plan depends on how Shopify reports your bundle sales.

Scenario 1 – Shopify Recognizes Bundles as Separate Products

Example:
You have a bundle that contains Product A, Product B, and Product C. You also sell A, B, and C individually.
In Shopify’s reports, you see sales velocity for the bundle separately from the components. Component sales do not include bundle sales.

How to Plan

You have two options:

  1. Ignore the bundle and plan only on single products

    • You could simply update demand for A, B, and C on the Demand Planning page based on their own sales velocity.

    • However, since bundle sales are not included in these velocities, you would risk underestimating total demand — because bundle-driven consumption is missing.

    • Not recommended if you want accurate replenishment for high-selling bundles.

  2. Plan separately for the bundle and the single products(Recommended)

    • On the Demand Planning page, increase the demand for the bundle product itself (e.g., from 100 to 500 units for an upcoming high-sales period).

    • Also, plan single products (A, B, C) individually on the Demand Planning page.

    • How Tightly handles this: Even though you set a demand plan for the bundle, Smart Replenishment will recommend restocking only the single products (A, B, and C).

      • If you increase the bundle’s planned demand, Tightly will automatically add the bundle-driven demand on top of each component’s recommendations.

    • This ensures that you never miss the extra demand caused by bundle sales while still purchasing components efficiently.

Lead Time Tip:
If a product has a 20-day lead time, and you increase its demand for October on the Demand Planning page, Tightly will start recommending it in the first week of September - giving you enough time to receive stock before the sales period.

Scenario 2 – Shopify Does NOT Recognize Bundles

Example:
You have a bundle with A, B, and C, but in Shopify’s reports you don’t see a sales velocity for the bundle at all. Instead, you only see sales velocity for A, B, and C — and those numbers already include bundle sales.

How to Plan

  • Since the component sales already include bundle sales, you don’t need to plan separately for bundles.

  • Simply adjust demand for A, B, and C directly on the Demand Planning page.

  • Any bundle sales will already be reflected in the components’ velocities and recommendations.

Key Takeaways

  • If Shopify recognizes bundles: Update demand for bundles and single products separately on the Demand Planning page. Tightly will merge the demand into component recommendations.

  • If Shopify doesn’t recognize bundles: Update demand only for the components on the Demand Planning page. Their velocities already include bundle sales.

  • In both cases, Smart Replenishment will recommend components, not bundles, ensuring your purchase orders remain accurate and efficient.

The following flow summarizes how Tightly handles demand planning for products that are part of bundles, in both scenarios where Shopify recognizes the bundle and where it only reports sales of individual components.
